Early Years Wānanga Report

CLIENT: The Southern Initiative

Design of a report to go back to kaupapa Māori Partners from The Early Years Wānanaga. The wairua and magic of the hui was so beautiful and integral to the important work of the kaimahi so I wanted to bring that through using handpainted textures and devices, quotes and illustrations.

The art concept and style was developed specifically for this kaupapa with the participants, the illustration is scraped out of the dark brown whenua, linking back to te ira tangata, kura waka and the process of birth, the glowing images reminding us of moving from dark of the womb into the world of light. I created the live at the hui with @liveillustrators during the wānanga, the wairua of the hui was so strong I swear the illustrations drew themselves.

RESULT: 

Works of art created with participants capture the wairua and purpose of their work, building connection and inspiring them for their work ahead. 

These works have been shared with all participants and gifted back to them as a taonga they can use in their work.
